Description

This paper explores the development of a student-centered Learning Analytics Dashboard (LAD) to promote self-regulated learning. With increasing digitization, online teaching has become an important feature in higher education. However, online learning leads to new challenges for students such as isolation or high self-management requirements. LADs can support students by providing data and analytics on their learning behavior and progress. Yet, there is limited research on the design of LADs, especially with respect to student needs. In this paper, we use design science research methodology to design, develop and evaluate a LAD in two iterations. We assess the usability, visual aesthetics, and Task Technology Fit of the dashboard against the background of self-regulated learning theory. The results show that our LAD is capable of supporting students in the tasks of self-evaluation and self-assessment.
