Blockchain adoption in supply chains has received much research attention in recent years. Luxury brands have started to use blockchains for supply chain provenance, anti-counterfeiting, and customer loyalty. Blockchain has good potential for closed-loop supply chains, circular economy, and other sustainability objectives. In this short paper we examine the blockchain use for anti-counterfeiting in luxury resale markets and investigate the factors affecting blockchain adoption. We perform a systematic review of 230 peer-reviewed journal articles related to potential use of blockchain in luxury and resale markets. Motivated by the review, we conduct case studies of luxury brands and resale platforms. After reviewing academic studies and the real-world adoption of blockchain to date, we investigate the factors that may further spur blockchain adoption for anti-counterfeiting in luxury resale markets.
