Description
Over the last 3 decades, our “cybervillage” has seen major technological paradigms shifts in the ways we work, live, educate, socialize, and entertain ourselves. These paradigm shifts made it easy to be more (cyber) engaged with our “neighbours” and along this came threats to be compromised in real life. The new technologies are easy to adapt as they meet our inherent, natural needs, but we are not similarly, inherently attuned to becoming proportionately fearful/careful of accompanying threats since the threats seem artificial but have real, direct attendant harm. Cybersecurity awareness efforts by governments and industry have not induced enough safety actions from the cyber-villagers. We propose to use “Trusted Cyber Messengers” to spread awareness of threats and mitigation actions directly, in person to target individuals in their own sphere of influence. The outcome of this study will help in developing strategies for spreading cybersecurity awareness to provide a safer cybervillage.
