Abstract
Telehealth system is gradually being recognised as an alternative healthcare solution. As one of the largest subgroups within Australia’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) population, older Chinese adults are suspected to encounter unique challenges when accessing local telehealth services. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of older Chinese adults in Australia in using telehealth systems, focusing on the real challenges they have encountered and how to build a more inclusive system. This study adopts a qualitative methodology through conducting semi-structured interviews with 12 older Chinese adults. Grounded theory was employed to analyse the data, and a theory along with a theoretical framework is developed based on the findings. We identified several key barriers impacting their adoption of telehealth, including technology barriers, trust issues, and cultural compatibility. Our theoretical framework suggests correlations between these factors. Overall, this study provides a practical framework guidance for more inclusive future telehealth systems.
