Abstract
Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is progressing from its research phase to the IT practitioner’s domain. To implement and operationalize the DLT based systems with confidence and cost-effectively, IT professionals are looking for the design and architecture guidelines, tools, techniques and best practices. The authors developed a Hyperledger Fabric (HF) network prototype to address the trust and traceability challenge in the food supply chain (FSC). Based on that learning, this article provides software engineering (SE) insights, recommendations and suggestions for professionals developing DLT applications for real-world business problems and opportunities. The paper also discusses the interoperability aspects of DLT solutions with existing IT applications and systems.
