Abstract

Organizations are increasingly exposed to unpredictable threats that are difficult to plan for due to factors such as complexity or exploitation of unknown vulnerabilities. In this research-in-progress paper, we explore how organizations leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) resources to build dynamic Situation Awareness (SA) and combat evolving cyber threats. Drawing on situation awareness (SA) theory, we propose a conceptual model linking AI resources and Dynamic SA capabilities (automated response, augmented cyber threat intelligence, and adaptive cybersecurity) with cyber resilience. The model explains how the combination of AI resources, dynamic SA capabilities, and cyber resilience acts as a protective shield against unpredictable cyber threats, enabling organizations to navigate through them proactively. The contribution of our study is twofold. First, our model highlights the role of AI resources in building dynamic SA, a link poorly understood to date. Second, our model contributes to cybersecurity literature by explaining how Dynamic SA capabilities strengthen organizational cyber resilience.
