ACIS 2024 Proceedings

Abstract

This research-in-progress explores the design of digital solutions to facilitate the community’s behavioural change to renewable energy. Despite significant contributions from both academic and practical fields, renewable energy accounts for only one-third of the electricity generation as of 2024. This study leverages action design research to address the behavioural barriers to adopting renewable energy within Mongolian households. Collaborating with the United Nations Development Programme, URECA, and GerHub, the research aims to influence individual energy consumption behaviours while deriving design knowledge. Our preliminary findings highlight challenges of trust, knowledge, and cultural resistance. The study is expected to contribute to Information Systems literature by identifying user challenges and proposing design principles for technologies that support energy transitions.
