Abstract
The theory of Project Portfolio Management (PPM) is described for its role in achieving organisational objectives. While the literature contains variety of academic and industry research in IT PPM highlighting its value, tools, processes, or methodologies, the sought sustainability benefits of recent advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems have not been particularly explored. In this research, we aim to propose a framework highlighting a dimension that should be investigated. We look at the importance of PPM theory and how the outcomes can be sustainable. We conceptualise a framework to examine this domain by integrating theories of organisational state-transition approach (OSTA) and people, process, data and technology (PPDT). We argue that the formulation of this framework is a domain of interest to the information systems (IS) discipline and that the adaptation of it, offers a useful approach to frame research design, questions, data collection and analysis in this phenomenon.
