Abstract

Employee negligence in protecting organizational information security remains a significant security risk, primarily due to conflicts between traditional security policies and employees' inherent altruistic motivation to assist colleagues. This study proposes an innovative solution: by appealing to guilt, it redirects altruistic drives from immediate peer support toward broader organizational security responsibilities. Through longitudinal research, we plan to examine how guilt-based persuasive messages promote organizational security citizenship behaviors that enhance security over time. Our findings will provide organizations with novel psychology-based strategies that integrate security objectives with employees' collaborative instincts, thereby elevating organizational information security levels.
