An Empirical Study on the Functional Mechanism among Team Trust, Team Commitment and Team Innovation in Chinese High Technology Innovation Teams

Abstract

With more and more importance of innovation team in the development and management of organizations, more attentions are given to the functional mechanism of team innovation. However, in the practical application of team in China's enterprises, the overall effect of team is often difficult to achieve for the lack of systematic understanding of the team operating mechanism. Therefore, in this paper, a conceptual model including five factors, which are Team Trust, Team Commitment, Individual Innovation, Cooperative Innovation, All Innovation in team and Team Innovation Performance, is set up. Further questionnaire survey is done; data are collected from 121 high-tech innovation teams in China and analyzed statistically using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) for testing the theoretical hypotheses. The conclusions are drawn that: Team Trust, and Team Commitment have a positive effect on Individual Innovation and Cooperation Innovation; and Individual Innovation and Cooperation Innovation have a positive effect on All Innovation in team. In addition, All Innovation has a positive effect on Team Trust and Team Commitment in turn. Moreover, All Innovation is a direct determinant of elevation to Team Innovation Performance. Namely, Team Trust, Team Commitment, Individual Innovation, Cooperation Innovation and All Innovation have interactions; moreover, Individual Innovation, Cooperation Innovation and All Innovation have mediating-effect in the influence relationships between Team Trust, Team Commitment and Team Innovation Performance.
