Abstract

Information is the basis of our society and of our organisations. Once upon a time information was marginal to organisations. Gradually information became central, in effect - no information, no organisation. Now the ways in which our society produces, transforms, transmits and consumes information are rapidly changing and these transformations impact again on organisations. Everyone has these powers and the information world that organisations inhabit is strange and changed. This paper, part of a larger investigation, analyses and interprets some of the literature of mobilities and highlights the impending consequences for information systems in organisation. The details of these consequences are currently difficult to predict.
