Abstract

The purpose of this panel is to share feedback from focus groups with IT and IS executives and senior leaders on the current impact GenAI is having on the IT workforce. The focus group moderators asked the following questions to participants: (1) How is GenAI transforming IT roles, required skills, and hiring practices across experience levels? (2) In what ways can IT professionals and programmers use GenAI as work companions to boost productivity and innovation? (3) What essential competencies remain critical in an AI-driven IT landscape? The summaries of these focus groups will provide opportunities for participants in the panel session to discuss the implications of these findings for teaching, research, and practice in the MIS academic profession.
