Abstract

International research collaboration is essential to advancing Information Systems (IS) scholarship and addressing complex societal, organizational, and technological challenges. Within AIS Region 1, there is significant opportunity to strengthen cross-border and cross-chapter research networks that leverage the region’s linguistic, cultural, institutional, and methodological diversity. At the same time, researchers face persistent barriers, including differences in funding systems, institutional incentives, language, infrastructure, mobility, and access to collaborative networks. Facilitated by VP Region 1, this panel brings together representatives from the six AIS Region 1 chapters—BRAIS, CANAIS, LACAIS, NEAIS, MWAIS, and SAIS—to discuss challenges and opportunities in building stronger research connections across the Americas. The panel will examine how AIS chapters can foster international collaboration, support scholars at different career stages, promote inclusive participation, and create sustainable structures for joint initiatives. Attendees will gain practical insights into identifying collaborators, sustaining cross-border relationships, and building research communities that are regionally connected and locally grounded.
