Abstract

Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a trend, enabling organizations to capture valuable insights that were previously unattainable. Despite the expected benefits of AI implementation, the results highlight inconsistencies. This study delves into the role of novel AI-work interactions (augmentation and automation) in explaining these seemingly contradictory outcomes. Specifically, we argue that individuals may perceive job identity threats from new AI-work interactions that can lead to AI aversion. Moreover, their job identity threat perception can be affected depending on individuals’ regulatory focus (promotion and prevention foci). To address these research questions, by utilizing the identity threat framework and regulatory focus theory, we develop a theoretical model to be tested empirically.
