Description
Over the past decade, online crowdsourcing platforms have experienced significant growth due to the swift advancement of the digital economy. Although earlier research has investigated antecedents and consequences of crowdsourcing behaviors, little is known about how organizational ambidexterity affects contractors’ creativity performance. Drawing on the organizational ambidexterity view, this study examines the impacts of imbalanced and combined ambidexterity on creativity performance in online crowdsourcing platforms and the moderating effects of competitive intensity and expertise level. We hypothesize that imbalanced ambidexterity negatively impacts creativity performance while combined ambidexterity has a positive impact. Additionally, competitive intensity and expertise level are proposed to moderate the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and creativity performance. We analyze unique archival data from a prominent Chinese online crowdsourcing platform using an econometric model. This study not only contributes to the literature on organizational ambidexterity and online crowdsourcing platforms but also offers practical implications for contractors and platform operators.
