Abstract
The purpose of this article is to provide the background to tackle a detailed architectural definition of a community based, Care Communications Infrastructure. It examines the nature of human wellbeing, the nurturing and pro- motion of which is the objective of Community Care. It will further examine the nature of service and of service relationships, the concepts of coordination, inter- mediation and brokerage and the concepts of human middleware supported by technical middleware. This is all concerned with the dynamic complexity of well- being and the impossibility of reducing complex care to pre-defined processes and pathways, even if we find such approaches inevitable in the case of simple care.
