Abstract
This study explores how carefully crafted AI policy statements can maintain academic integrity while supporting constructive use of generative AI in higher education courses. Findings highlight the growing role of AI in teaching and learning, with benefits for innovation, creativity, and student engagement. Faculty responses indicate that clear policy statements help set expectations, prevent plagiarism, and guide responsible applications of AI. At the same time, policies work best when combined with pedagogical practices that encourage trust, transparency, and meaningful integration of AI into coursework. Effective policies outline acceptable uses, balance ethical safeguards with academic freedom, and empower instructors to adapt wording to their context. The study concludes that AI policy statements should be viewed not only as regulatory tools but also as frameworks enabling responsible innovation, ensuring that AI adoption strengthens both learning outcomes and academic values.
