Abstract

This study investigated how the query functions of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems impacted hospital efficiency and profitability. We collected the sample data (N = 2587) from the 2020 American Hospital Association (AHA) annual survey datasets and the 2019 AHA Information Technology survey dataset. We used t-test models to test the hypotheses. Data partially supported the profitability hypothesis, while evidence strongly supported the efficiency hypothesis. The results showed that hospitals employing advanced EHR query functionalities experienced significantly higher efficiency than those with basic systems. This study contributes to enhancing healthcare delivery and implementation of advanced health information technology (HIT).
