Abstract

While alignment and social capital have been widely studied, limited research has employed quantitative methods to examine their impact on software deployment performance. This study addresses this gap by investigating how intra-IT alignment between development and operations teams, alongside different types of social capital, influence collaboration and release efficiency. We propose that alignment enhances deployment outcomes, but the strength of this relationship depends on the nature of social capital within DevOps teams. Using a hierarchical model approach, this study delves deep into which forms of social capital fosters stronger collaboration and more effective software releases. Through empirical analysis, we provide actionable insights for IT leaders seeking to optimize DevOps performance. By bridging alignment theory with a nuanced understanding of social capital, this research contributes to the broader discourse on IT-enabled firm performance, particularly in financial technology ecosystems where deployment speed and stability are critical.
