Abstract
Sustainability in a business context is a company’s role in society, how it generates value by managing positive and negative environmental and social impacts, and how its decisions impact a wide range of stakeholders. Regulatory agencies are working on guidelines for standards of Corporate Sustainability scorecards to include Environmental, Social, and Governance(ESG) metrics. Currently, organizations struggle to provide accurate, reliable ESG data which can pose a risk to the organization and potential future compliance issues. Understanding the correlation between data governance and ESG is essential for encouraging ethical and sustainable business practices. A literature review was conducted with a focus on the connection between ESG and data governance but limited results were returned highlighting the need for further research on ESG and data governance frameworks. Design Science Research(DSR) methodology will be used to evaluate and update data capabilities of an IT framework which will contribute to academic research and industry.
