Abstract
This special issue looks ahead at the future of work, tasks and jobs influenced by evolving information technology and societal trends. To highlight the possibilities and risks ahead, we emphasize the need for a futures-oriented research paradigm, aimed at projecting many possible scenarios, focusing on our valuing of these, and presenting steps organizations can take now to realize the future states they wish to create. We also describe the special issue articles and suggest areas for further research.
