Abstract
In this executive response to Brown, Clancy and Scholer, Ray Hoving of Ray Hoving Associates recognizes the factors that contributed to the successes at Sallie Mae. He further suggests that the many significant challenges overcome by Sallie Mae were not brought about by a secret formula, but by applying three basic organizational capabilities and by obtaining unwavering management commitment to their use.
