Abstract
The rapid rise of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), is reshaping Human Resource Management (HRM). GenAI tools present opportunities for efficiency in recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and employ ee engagement, while simultaneously raising significant challenges. This shift requires HR managers to acquire new competencies to responsibly harness AI’s potential. Despite growing research on AI in HRM, limited attention has been given to the skillsets required for HR managers in this context. Addressing this gap, our ongoing research examines the question: What are the core competencies HR managers need in the GenAI era? We propose a preliminary six -category model: strategic, change management, human an d interpersonal, technological and technical, analytical, and ethical. A qualitative multiple -case study will be conducted with Tunisian HR managers using GenAI tools. The expected findings aim to bridge the research gap and provide both theoretical insigh ts and practical guidance for the future of HR in the Gen AI era
