Abstract

This paper explores current data management challenges in the metaverse by con ducting a focused literature review. It identifies key challenges, around data privacy, governance, interoperability and scalability, which are grouped under three broader categories: Technical integration, Security and Privacy and Data Governance. The ongoing study highlights the crucial roles of various stakeholders (e.g., users, developers, regulators) and emphasi zes the importance of collaboration to improve data management across platforms. To address the research question, the study pursues three objectives: identifying key challenges, reviewing existing governance frameworks and outlining research priorities. These initial findings may serve as an entry point for develop ing more consistent and ethical data management frameworks, while pointing out gaps that require further research
