TOWARDS A RISK-ORIENTED ERP CAPABILITY MATURITY MODEL (ERP-CMM)

Abstract

In the last decade the introduction of ERP systems has become one of the most common IT investment for firms. Given its complexity and the massive use of resources needed, ERP implementation projects are subject to a high risk of failure. Therefore the adoption of an approach based on risk management appears to be essential, but considerably difficult and uncertain.
The main objective of this study was to develop an assessment model that allows evaluating the organization’s readiness to implement the ERP system. Based on articles collected from literature and a first case study verification, this study identifies a number of key dimensions of analysis and suggest a conceptual framework for evaluating companies. Measuring the current level of maturity, the model provides information about the company’s strengths and weaknesses and suggests actions to raise the organizational capability in order to increase the success probability of the ERP project.
