Digital technologies are fundamentally transforming how organizations manage operations, create value, and compete in an increasingly complex global, social, and economic landscape. Rapidly emerging and evolving technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation, the Internet of Things, embodied devices, and immersive technologies, are exerting pressure on leaders to effectively implement and (re)organize increasingly complex socio-technical systems. Harnessing the full potential of these digital technologies necessitates more than mere tool deployment; it requires a comprehensive reconfiguration of socio-technical systems, a reevaluation of organizing principles, and an alignment of technological capabilities with operational practices. As organizations experiment with AI, generative AI, and other data-driven digital technologies, they encounter persistent challenges across a wide range of socio-technical issues. We have entered a moment to elevate and reimagine our collective insights into the implementation, organization, and integration of technologies into our daily routines and practices. This both empowers us to transform digital strategies into lasting, impactful organizational success, as well as challenges us to confront the risks and potential harms posed by such sweeping transformations.
