Description
As organizations shift due to changes in technology, there is an increasing need to find IT employees that have more than the necessary technical skills for a position. Increasingly, organizations want candidates with other attributes valuable to the organization, such as creativity, a thirst for learning, or problem-solving skills. In this short paper, we propose that an applicant's accomplishments in online gaming can signal the presence of important characteristics to an IT hiring manager. This research identifies how accomplishments in online games can be translated into knowledge, skills, abilities, other characteristics, or credentials that are consistent with characteristics of team members that are successful in organizations. We offer recommendations to support hiring managers in discussing online gaming accomplishments in the resume and interview process as the organization seeks to find the IT talent needed.
