Description

We conducted an in-depth case study on how designers working in a Chinese pioneer in the entertainment business flexibly assembled their representational practices as their design process so required. We develop a new perspective on representational practice in the design of radical digital innovations, which we call “combinatorial representational practice”. Our evidence shows how combinatorial representational practice facilitated by digital technology simultaneously improves both the communication and generation of ideas. In addition to offering a new perspective, our research contributes to the emerging digital innovation literature with a detailed explanation of how digital technology impacts on representational practice. We also offer practical implications for digital ventures engaged in radical digital innovation.

How Do Designers Assemble Representational Practices to Generate Radical Digital Innovations?
