Abstract
Utilization of an information system is an important and frequently measured MIS variable, since use of a system is the conduit through which information technology can affect performance. This paper addresses measurement issues associated with utilization variables. The discussion is motivated by a review of the literature and an examination of three relevant theories. It is asserted that utilization can be measured effectively if the measures chosen correspond to the measures suggested by an appropriate reference theory.
