Abstract
As a treasure of traditional Chinese weaving techniques, Nanjing Brocade has been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, embodying profound historical, artistic, and technological value. However, in the context of contemporary consumer culture, the preservation and development of Nanjing Brocade face significant challenges. Guided by the core concept of “intangible cultural heritage revitalization,” this paper aims to explore innovative strategies for integrating Nanjing Brocade elements into the design of cultural and creative products. The study first examines the connotations of intangible cultural heritage revitalization and the cultural and artistic value of Nanjing Brocade. It then draws upon the debate between “ornament and function” in design history, as well as theories of semiotics and experience design, to conduct an in-depth analysis of existing issues in the design of Nanjing Brocade cultural and creative products, such as homogenization and superficiality. Finally, the paper systematically proposes a set of innovative design strategies from three perspectives: the translation and reconstruction of design semiotics, the creation of narrative experiences, and the integration of technology with cross-disciplinary collaboration. These strategies aim to facilitate the effective transformation of Nanjing Brocade from “cultural heritage” to “cultural resource,” thereby enabling its living preservation and sustainable development in the new era.
