Abstract
Organizations are increasingly adopting algorithmic control, particularly in the gig work sector. Prior research has identified various forms of resistance displayed by gig workers towards algorithmic control, referred to as algoactivism. The specific individual algorithmic control measures that trigger such resistance remain largely unexplored. This research gap persists due to the lack of validated tools for measuring algoactivism. To address this issue, this paper develops a scale for measuring algoactivism following established methods. An initial item pool was created and refined through expert interviews and a rating study with gig workers. The resulting scale consists of a reflective-formative second-order construct for algoactivism, which was tested within a nomological network alongside related constructs. The finalized scale includes 15 items distributed across three dimensions of algoactivism.
