Abstract
Political and social polarization have reached alarming levels in many democracies, driven by biased media reporting, social media echo chambers, and affective partisanship. However, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) may offer novel opportunities to mitigate this trend. This study examines whether artificial intelligence (AI) generated content, synthesized from biased narratives from ideologically diverse news sources and presented in a non-confrontational tone, can help bridge ideological divides and reduce polarization. Using two behavioral experiments, this study will examine why, how, and under what circumstances can such AI-generated content may help mitigate polarization.
