Abstract

For a long time, health data visualization techniques have been an essential and determining field for generating knowledge and directing public policies. In Brazil, the Informatics Department of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), is main responsible for storing brazilian public health-related data. Nowdays, data is considered a valuable item, thus, access to public information must be facilitated in order to be explored and understood by a greatest amount of people. This article presents a visualization tool for the Brazilian public health hospitalization system dataset, provided by DATASUS. The developed tool uses different data visualization techniques to support the analysis of epidemiological data. With the tool developed through the Design Science Research, it is possible to analyze the behavior of the causes of SUS hospital admissions, by gender, age or time of year. It is also possible to compare reasons for hospitalization over the past ten years and the main causes of hospitalizations in all states of Brazil.
