Abstract

Climate change, environmental degradation and biodiversity loss caused by human activities are among the greatest global challenges of the 21st century. Measures based on the circular economy, to be applied throughout the entire life cycle of products, aim, with a focus on environmental protection, to take advantage of innovation and digital transformation, ensuring that resources are kept in the economy for as long as possible. For the circular economy to become a reality an adequate Information Systems infrastructure is required in every organisation to support the size and nature of the challenges ahead. This paper explores how Enterprise Architecture should be adapted in organisations to better incorporate the principles and challenges of the circular economy.
