Abstract

Diabetes management in older adults can be complex due to high morbidity, mortality as well as increased physical and cognitive challenges. Information on lifestyle management, education and advice, are key to managing diabetes, however, concerns exist in the way information is provided, presented, communicated and engaged with. Hence, many turn to online resources to support their diabetes journey. Older adults are frequently using online means to seek health information yet; there is little information on how information found online is used and how trustworthiness is assessed. Therefore, in this proposed research study, we explore the diabetes online information seeking behavior of older adults. This research study is important as older adults being digital migrants may experience digital literacy and equity issues which could hamper their digital search experience.
