Description
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be a game changer for organisations to increase sustainability in response to global challenges such as climate change. However, this is hindered by a lack of understanding about the deployment of AI in the primary and support functions of organisations. Therefore, this structured literature review analyses the status quo of the scientific discourse on AI promoting sustainability in organisations. The results indicate that the scientific discourse tends to focus on AI promoting sustainability in the primary activities of the value chain (Operations, Logistics). Little focus is spent on how AI can help to address the ecological, economic and social goals of sustainable development equally and what specific practical applications of AI for promoting sustainability in organisations exist. The results also show that professionals see potential in AI for promoting sustainability, which is why this paper identifies four current research gaps, for which future research questions for scholars are proposed.
