Description
Mixed reality (MR) technologies, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) – the terms for immersive technologies that merge physical and virtual experiences, have been increasingly explored and reviewed as an innovative teaching method in K-12 and higher education. To provide an overview of the recent immersive technologies in the education settings, we reviewed and analyzed the pilot studies and ongoing research published in the IEEE VR workshop between 2016 and 2020. By summarizing the most up-to-date work, we present how different methods using immersive technologies are implemented in a variety of areas to enhance student learning. The experiences and challenges of using the VR/AR/MR technologies summarized in this study could serve as an inspiration and guidance for future studies.
