Abstract

This paper employed a qualitative interpretive case study methodology and the dynamic capabilities theory to investigate how a national digital platform can be sustained within dynamic environment in a West African country context of Ghana. Findings from our study indicated that support from political leaders as well as formulation and integration of policies to enforce wide usage does not result in sustained growth of national digital platforms. Owners of platform need to develop strategic capabilities in environmental scanning, innovation and integration, in order to cultivate a self-sustaining platform ecosystem by creating an environment that foster actors’ participation and interaction. Our findings have implication for policy, practice, and research. Keywords Digital platforms, digital infrastructures, digital ecosystems, dynamic capabilities location addresses, developing country, Ghana
