Abstract

The main goal of this study is to identify and to better understand motivations for enterprise system (ES) adoption. Drawing from the experience of a few dozen ES adopters from Poland, this study identifies and categorises motivations into coherent groups of issues. The findings are next analysed taking into consideration company size and compared with the motivations reported by prior research conducted in developed and developing countries. The results illustrate that practitioners from emerging economies tend to perceive a short-term impact of ES adoption. This study’s outcome also emphasises the need for incorporating project type in order to gain full insight into ES adoption. The paper ends with conclusions and recommendations for researchers and practitioners dealing with ES adoptions.
