Abstract
In the future, a core criterion for the success of elec- tronic marketplaces and distribution channels will be se- mantic interoperability among different vendors’ EC sys- tems. In this context, interoperability of product catalogs is of particular importance as it holds an enormous business potential for the transformation of sourcing processes of distributors and large organizations and can enable a wide variety of new business models in areas such as purchasing and sales operations. The case of Hofer-Curti Group, a large Swiss trade group, provides an exemplary scenario for the streamlining and optimization of supply chain ac- tivities enabled by interoperable catalog technology.
