Abstract

In an era where the prevalence of cybersecurity threats is ever increasing, maintaining a strong cybersecurity posture has become crucially important. In this study, we explore how various social identities influence individuals’ cybersecurity awareness, vulnerabilities, behaviors and experiences. Specifically, we draw on intersectionality theory to understand the effect of gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status in shaping individuals' experiences in the digital landscape. By utilizing a qualitative interpretive approach, we plan on conducting semi-structured interviews with participants from different intersections of gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. We aim to identify the major themes and sub-themes in the data gathered from the interviews. This will help us identify the common challenges facing individuals across diverse intersections.
