Abstract
Digital technology is reshaping business and society, driving the emergence of digital innovation as a strategic approach to solving problems and optimizing processes through novel applications of technology. This research investigates the development of ecosystems for digital innovators, focusing on the complexities and challenges involved in fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Based on our case study on Uphold, a UK-based cryptocurrency exchange that has survived multiple cryptocurrency bubbles, we have arrived at a perspective of a tri-ecosystem of digital innovator businesses and identified the dark sides of ecosystem activities. We also provide several practical implications for digital innovators.
