Abstract

The impact of intelligent member’s (IM) agentic nature on crucial social dynamics in hybrid teams remains inconclusive. This study addresses the gap in our understanding of how AI influences social dynamic in teams by exploring how the behaviours and perceptions between human members (HMs) and an IM shape the dynamics of relational coordination. We conducted a systematic literature review, focusing on the social and relational aspects of human-AI collaboration. Our findings identify HM behaviours and four key dilemmas: (1) the tension between an IM's predictability and a human's creative unpredictability, (2) the trade-off between an IM's need to be explainable and a human's limited cognitive load, (3) the challenges posed by an IM's physical or non-physical presence, and (4) the balancing act between an IM's role as a collaborator and its autonomy. This research provides a foundational understanding of how an IM's agentic nature alters relational coordination.
