Abstract
Organisations are compelled to explore agentic Information Systems (IS), yet many remain unsure how to turn promises into meaningful practice. Such value realisation is constrained by three challenges: fragmented use that yields inconsistent outcomes; opaque, socially contingent use that is sensitive to norms and stigma; and variably applied use that produces scattered efforts misaligned with organisational priorities. Together these conditions make assimilated use – effective use across individuals and groups that collectively advances the organisation’s overarching goals for using the system – difficult to achieve. We commenced an Action Research study with a mutualised Australian insurance company to address this challenge, supporting 55 members of the Senior Leadership Team in using a GenAI tool effectively. This research-in-progress paper reports insights from the first action cycle involving the design of a knowledge scaffolding artefact. The study advances understanding of effective use and develops assimilated use as a lens for system-level value.
