Abstract
This article discusses why and how by means of designing a personal data marketplace prototype we can give individuals more control over their personal data and how they can reap monetary benefits. This article is a hybrid study of a novel conceptual design of a marketplace that can buy and sell different types of personal data from various applications, and provide data flow transparency for data providers, allowing them to understand their data's whereabouts and value. The prototype combines blockchain and privacy-enhancing technologies into its design. The distinctiveness of this marketplace prototype can be summarised as enabling individual users to participate in the personal data market, control and manage their data, and obtain monetary benefits by exercising existing legal rights.
