Abstract

The intersection of Generative AI (GenAI) and the Metaverse represents a transformative frontier in technology, poised to redefine immersive interactions and landscapes. Despite their rapid advancements, there is a significant gap in understanding how these technologies intersect to create new user affordances and address emerging challenges. This research-in-progress study aims to develop a comprehensive insight that examines the integration of GenAI into the Metaverse, focusing on its potential to enhance user experiences and promote responsible practices. Through review of the literature, we identify six key affordance areas. The study employs the Delphi method to gather expert insights on these affordance areas, exploring the opportunities and ethical concerns they present. By addressing critical issues such as privacy, bias, and manipulation, this research aims to outline guidelines for the responsible deployment of GenAI within the Metaverse. The anticipated outcomes include a refined conceptual model of GenAI affordances and practical recommendations for fostering responsible technological development. This study contributes to the emerging discourse on the Generative Metaverse, providing a foundation for future exploration and innovation in immersive systems.
