Abstract
The ability of companies to rapidly adapt to changing market conditions depends on the agility of their information technology (IT). Thereby IT capabilities are important to improve performance and effectiveness of organizational IT. Research shows that IT agility is an emerging topic in information systems (IS) and is positively related to IT capabilities, which is little explored yet. To better understand the impact of IT capabilities on IT agility we conducted an exploratory qualitative study with eight German industry companies. First, results show that IT agility is determined by three dimensions of IT capability (Technology, Human, Organization) and that the mutual dependency of these dimensions plays also a significant role. We will continue this research in progress paper by developing an IT agility measurement model and extending the scope of this study to further companies.
