Description

Health short videos have become vital in health educational interventions due to their brevity, enabling quick access to health information. However, the short and fragmented nature of these videos poses challenges to cognitive absorption, potentially leading to superficial engagement and reduced critical thinking. To address this gap, this study explores the role of scenic cues in enhancing cognitive absorption. Based on situated learning theory, we identify immersive cues (physical and aesthetic) and interactive cues (informational and communal) as core dimensions of scenic cues. By collecting 15,265 health short videos, we will extract multi-modal features and elaborate scenic cues through various techniques (e.g., deep learning and large language models). We aim to build a theoretical framework to understand the impact of scenic cues on cognitive absorption and offer practical guidance for health communicators to create more effective health short videos.
