Description

This study investigates configurations driving smart tourism city competitiveness in South Korean municipalities using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Building on the Smart Tourism Cities Competitiveness Index (STCCI) framework, which comprises five dimensions—Attractiveness, Accessibility, Digitalization Readiness, Sustainability, and Co-partnership—this research analyzes 241 municipalities to identify successful development patterns. The results reveal five distinct configurations, demonstrating multiple pathways to achieving competitiveness and identifying municipalities best suited for each pathway. The findings emphasize the importance of context-specific strategies, offering practical insights for policymakers and contributing to the refinement of STCCI as a benchmarking tool for smart tourism city development.
