In recent years, learning analytics has gained considerable attention of researchers and practitioners in both Information Systems (IS) and education disciplines. In order to provide a better understanding of objects and their relationship in learning analytics, this paper introduces an ontology of learning analytics that acts as a knowledge management tool and an encyclopedic reference tool for those who are interested in learning analytics. Furthermore, the proposed ontology allows systematically and symmetrically future research to contribute to the growth of the scientific field as well as to identify the critical gaps within it.
